Product Details
AMSOIL SAE 60 100% Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil delivers heat-resistant, wear-fighting protection engineered specifically for air-cooled V-twin engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases. One oil covers all three sumps with the film strength and shear stability that big-bore motors demand in the hardest riding conditions.
Air-cooled V-twin engines run hot. Parade rides, stop-and-go rally traffic, and long summer highway pulls push oil temperatures well past what many lubricants can handle. Cylinder temperatures in Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam Harley-Davidson engines routinely reach 300°F or higher, breaking down conventional oils into sludge and carbon deposits that rob compression and power. On top of that, the shared-sump design of most V-twins means your engine oil is also protecting transmission gears and a wet clutch, two jobs that create conflicting demands on the lubricant.
RESISTS EXTREME HEAT AND OXIDATION
Synthetic base oils in this SAE 60 formulation are naturally heat-resistant, maintaining their structure in operating temperatures that would cause conventional and lesser synthetic oils to oxidize and thicken. NOACK volatility testing (ASTM D5800) shows just 3.7% weight loss, meaning the oil stays in the engine rather than burning off as vapor. That low volatility translates directly to less oil consumption between changes and fewer deposits on piston rings and valve guides. The additive package includes maximum levels of oxidation inhibitors to fight the sludge and carbon buildup that steals compression from high-mileage Harley-Davidson engines.
REDUCES WEAR IN THE TOUGHEST CONDITIONS
This oil carries a heavy dose of anti-wear additives that show up in testing. The Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172, run at 40 kgf, 150°C, 1800 rpm for one hour) produces a wear scar of just 0.37 mm. That level of protection matters in the cam chest, on transmission gears, and anywhere metal-to-metal contact occurs under load. A high-temperature/high-shear viscosity of 7.6 cP (ASTM D5481 at 150°C) confirms the oil maintains a protective film even when heat and mechanical stress are at their peak. This is the kind of protection that keeps compensator sprockets, cam bearings, and transmission dogs intact over tens of thousands of miles.
PROTECTS TRANSMISSION GEARS WITHOUT COMPROMISE
V-twin transmission gears generate enormous shearing forces that can thin out oils not built for the job. AMSOIL SAE 60 V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is shear-stable, resisting viscosity breakdown so it continues to cushion and protect gear teeth throughout the drain interval. It also meets SAE 140, API GL-1 gear oil requirements, performing like a dedicated gear lube without the extreme-pressure additives that can damage wet-clutch friction materials. One lubricant handles the engine, transmission, and primary chaincase in Harley-Davidson Big Twin, Sportster, and other V-twin platforms that specify SAE 60 oil.
WET-CLUTCH COMPATIBLE FOR SMOOTH SHIFTING
The formulation contains no friction modifiers. This is critical for wet-clutch motorcycles where slippery oil causes clutch slippage, dragging, and glazed friction plates. AMSOIL SAE 60 V-Twin Motorcycle Oil meets JASO MA/MA2 standards, promoting positive clutch engagement and smooth, confident shifts. A high TBN helps resist the acids that degrade clutch material over time, extending clutch life in bikes that see heavy use.
SUPERIOR RUST PROTECTION FOR STORED AND SEASONAL BIKES
Motorcycles that sit through winter months, humid garage storage, or see only occasional short rides are especially vulnerable to internal rust. Rust on roller bearings, cylinder walls, and transmission components causes compression loss, blow-by, and premature failure. AMSOIL SAE 60 V-Twin Motorcycle Oil includes dedicated anti-rust agents that coat internal surfaces and resist moisture-driven corrosion during extended downtime.
SPECIFICATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil meets JASO MA/MA2, API SL, SG/CF/CG-4, and ISO-L-EMA2 specifications. It also satisfies SAE 90, API GL-1 gear oil requirements. Use in big-bore motorcycles that require SAE 60 motorcycle oil, including early-model Harley-Davidsons equipped with Knucklehead, Panhead, or Shovelhead engines, as well as Evo, Twin Cam, and Milwaukee-Eight models that call for SAE 60 viscosity. Compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils, though mixing will reduce performance benefits and extended drain capability. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended.
SERVICE LIFE
Recommended for use up to twice the motorcycle manufacturer's recommended change interval (miles or hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines and transmissions. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When using an engine filter other than an AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filter, change the filter at standard intervals. For off-road use, follow manufacturer-recommended intervals. Racing or modified engines are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations.

When to Use SAE 60 Motorcycle Oil
SAE 60 motorcycle oil is for motorcycles that specifically call for a straight 60 weight oil. It is not a universal substitute for 20W-50, so confirm the viscosity in the owner's manual before ordering.
