Product Details
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil delivers comprehensive protection for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight, Twin Cam, and Evolution engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases in a single formulation. This oil change kit packages five quarts of synthetic V-Twin oil with a black AMSOIL oil filter and drain-plug O-ring, giving you everything needed to service most 2016-and-newer Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Air-cooled V-twin engines face a brutal combination of high operating temperatures, shared-sump lubrication demands, and long periods of seasonal storage. Oil temperatures in a Harley-Davidson V-twin regularly exceed 300°F, and cylinder temperatures can climb well past 400°F during stop-and-go traffic or slow parade riding. That heat breaks down conventional and lesser synthetic oils, leading to viscosity loss, deposit buildup, and accelerated wear in the engine, transmission, and primary chaincase simultaneously. A single oil has to handle all of it.
RESISTS EXTREME HEAT AND PREVENTS DEPOSITS
During 1,000 miles of dyno testing at oil temperatures reaching 300°F and cylinder temperatures reaching 421°F, AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil fought piston-ring deposits to prevent sticking and protected against piston scuffing for maximum compression and power. The synthetic base oils resist oxidation at temperatures that would cause conventional oils to break down rapidly. With a Noack Volatility of just 4.2% weight loss (ASTM D5800), this oil holds onto its critical base stock rather than burning it off as vapor through the breather system.
RETAINS VISCOSITY AND PROTECTS TRANSMISSIONS
Harley-Davidson transmissions and compensators subject oil to intense mechanical shearing. Every gear mesh and chain wrap tries to tear the oil's molecular structure apart, thinning it out. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil resists viscosity breakdown 68% better than Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle SYN3 in CEC L45-KRL shear stability testing (ASTM D445). That translates directly to sustained film thickness across transmission gears and compensator sprockets, reducing the metallic clunking and hard shifts that Harley riders often attribute to worn parts when the real culprit is thinned-out oil. The Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172) result of just 0.37 mm scar diameter and the FZG Load Stage Pass of 12+ (0 mm wear) confirm strong anti-wear and extreme-pressure performance without relying on aggressive EP additives that can damage wet clutches.
DELIVERS SUPERIOR RUST PROTECTION DURING STORAGE
Most motorcycles spend more time parked than on the road. Humidity, condensation from temperature swings, and short rides that never fully warm the engine all introduce moisture into the crankcase. Rust on cam lobes, roller bearings, and cylinder walls leads to bearing failure, compression loss, and blow-by. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil contains dedicated anti-rust agents and passes the ASTM D1748 humidity cabinet rust test. That protection matters whether your Road Glide sits through a Northern winter or just stays in the garage between weekend rides in Florida.
WET-CLUTCH COMPATIBLE WITH SMOOTH ENGAGEMENT
This oil is formulated without the friction modifiers found in automotive engine oils that cause clutch slippage in shared-sump motorcycle applications. It meets JASO MA/MA2 specifications, promoting smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. The high Total Base Number of 11.6 helps neutralize acids that can degrade clutch friction material over time, extending clutch life and maintaining consistent lever feel throughout the oil change interval.
SPECIFICATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil meets JASO MA/MA2, API SL, SH, SG, CG-4, CF, and ISO-L-EMA2 specifications. It is suitable for use in Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles requiring 20W-50 motorcycle oil, including engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases. Do not use where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required. Compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils, though mixing will shorten oil life and reduce performance benefits. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended.
SERVICE LIFE
For engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases, use for up to twice the motorcycle manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. If not using an AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil Filter, change the filter at standard intervals. Racing or modified engines are excluded from extended-drain-interval recommendations. This kit fits most 2017-and-newer Touring models (Road King, Street Glide, Road Glide, Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, CVO Limited), 2018-and-newer Softail models (Street Bob, Fat Bob, Low Rider, Heritage Classic, Breakout, Sport Glide, Softail Slim), and 2017-and-newer Trike models (Freewheeler, Tri Glide Ultra, CVO Tri Glide).
