Product Details
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil Change Kit puts everything you need for a complete oil service on most 1999-2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycles into one box: four quarts of purpose-built synthetic V-Twin oil, a chrome AMSOIL oil filter, and a drain-plug O-ring.
Air-cooled V-twin engines operate under conditions that would destroy most automotive motor oils. Oil temperatures in a Harley-Davidson Twin Cam or Evolution engine routinely reach 300°F and beyond, especially in stop-and-go traffic, summer rally rides, or slow-moving parades. That heat breaks down conventional and many synthetic oils, leading to viscosity loss, deposit buildup, and accelerated wear in the engine, transmission, and primary chaincase. Because Harley-Davidson motorcycles share a single lubricant across all three compartments, the oil also has to handle gear loads and wet-clutch friction without the help of extreme-pressure additives that would cause clutch slippage.
FIGHTS EXTREME HEAT AND DEPOSIT FORMATION
During 1,000 miles of dyno testing where oil temperatures reached 300°F and cylinder temperatures hit 421°F, AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil fought piston-ring deposits to prevent sticking and protected against piston scuffing for maximum compression and power. The synthetic base oils resist oxidation at sustained high temperatures far better than conventional formulations. With a Noack volatility of just 4.2% weight loss (ASTM D5800), the oil holds onto its lighter molecules instead of burning them off, which means less oil consumption and fewer deposits between changes.
RESISTS VISCOSITY BREAKDOWN 6X BETTER THAN HARLEY-DAVIDSON SYN3
Viscosity retention is critical when one oil has to protect the engine, transmission gears, and primary chain simultaneously. Mechanical shearing from gear mesh and chain contact thins oil rapidly, reducing its ability to keep metal surfaces separated. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil resists viscosity breakdown 6X better than Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle SYN3 in CEC L45-KRL shear stability testing (ASTM D445). That shear stability translates directly to better protection for compensator sprockets, transmission gears, and cam-chest components over the full drain interval. The Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172) confirms a wear scar of just 0.37 mm at 40 kgf, 150°C, 1800 rpm over one hour.
DELIVERS WET-CLUTCH PERFORMANCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Many engine oils contain friction modifiers that improve fuel economy in cars but cause clutch slippage in motorcycles. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil is formulated without friction modifiers and meets JASO MA/MA2 specifications, promoting smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. Its high Total Base Number of 11.6 helps neutralize acids that degrade clutch friction material over time, supporting consistent clutch feel across the full service interval. Riders on Dyna, Softail, Touring, and Sportster models all benefit from clean engagement and predictable lever response.
SUPERIOR RUST PROTECTION FOR STORAGE AND SHORT RIDES
Motorcycles that sit through winter months or only get ridden on weekends are vulnerable to internal rust. Rust on roller bearings, cylinder walls, and cam lobes leads to premature wear, compression loss, and blow-by. Most motorcycle oils do not contain dedicated anti-rust chemistry. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil passes the ASTM D1748 humidity cabinet rust test, providing a protective barrier during extended storage that conventional oils simply do not offer.
SPECIFICATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil meets JASO MA/MA2, API SL, SH, SG, CG-4, CF, and ISO-L-EMA2 specifications. It is suitable for use in Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles requiring 20W-50 motorcycle oil, including engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases. It is also appropriate for motorcycles calling for an API CH-4 oil. Do not use where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required. The oil is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils, though mixing will reduce performance benefits and service life. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended.
SERVICE LIFE
For engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases, AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Oil can be used for up to twice the motorcycle manufacturer's recommended change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When not using an AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil Filter, change the filter at standard intervals. Racing and modified engines are excluded from extended-drain-interval recommendations. For off-road use, change at motorcycle-manufacturer-recommended intervals.
This kit covers Harley-Davidson Touring models like the Road Glide, Street Glide, Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Road King, and Ultra Limited, along with Softail models including the Fat Boy, Heritage Classic, Breakout, and Slim. Dyna models such as the Street Bob, Wide Glide, Fat Bob, and Low Rider are also covered, as are Sportster Iron 883, Forty-Eight, and SuperLow models, plus Trike models including the Tri Glide Ultra and Freewheeler.
