Product Details
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil delivers complete engine, transmission, and primary chaincase protection for Harley-Davidson V-twin motorcycles in one oil change kit that includes everything you need: four quarts of oil, a black AMSOIL oil filter, and a drain plug O-ring.
Air-cooled V-twin engines operate under conditions that push conventional and even some synthetic oils past their limits. Oil temperatures regularly reach 300°F or higher during summer rides, stop-and-go rally traffic, and slow-speed parades. That kind of sustained heat breaks oil down fast, thins it out, and leaves deposits on pistons and rings that rob compression and power. Add in the demands of lubricating a wet clutch, transmission gears, and primary chain with the same oil, and you need a formulation that can handle all three jobs without compromise.
FIGHTS EXTREME HEAT AND DEPOSIT BUILDUP
During 1,000 miles of dyno testing where oil temperatures reached 300°F and cylinder temperatures hit 421°F, AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil fought piston-ring deposits to prevent sticking and protected against piston scuffing for maximum compression and power. The synthetic base oils resist oxidation at temperatures that would break down conventional formulations, keeping your Harley-Davidson Twin Cam, Evolution, or Sportster engine cleaner over longer service intervals. NOACK volatility testing (ASTM D5800) shows just 4.2% weight loss, meaning less oil is burned off under high heat.
RESISTS VISCOSITY BREAKDOWN 6X BETTER THAN HARLEY-DAVIDSON SYN3
A 20W-50 oil that thins out under the shearing forces inside your transmission and primary chaincase is not doing its job. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil resists viscosity breakdown 6 times better than Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle SYN3 in CEC L45-KRL shear stability testing (ASTM D445). That thicker, more stable oil film translates directly to better protection for compensator sprockets, transmission gears, and primary chain components. It performs like a gear lube without the extreme-pressure additives that would damage your wet clutch.
SMOOTH, CONSISTENT WET-CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
Friction modifiers found in automotive oils cause clutch slippage in motorcycles with shared-sump lubrication. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil is formulated without friction modifiers and meets JASO MA/MA2 standards for wet-clutch compatibility. It promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement while its high Total Base Number of 11.6 helps neutralize the acids that degrade clutch material over time. The result is confident clutch feel whether you are launching from a stoplight or rowing through gears on a twisty road.
PROTECTS AGAINST RUST DURING STORAGE AND SHORT RIDES
Most riders do not put miles on their bikes year-round. Seasonal storage, high humidity, and short trips introduce moisture into the engine, and rust on cam lobes, roller bearings, and cylinder walls can cause real damage before you even notice it. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil passes the ASTM D1748 humidity cabinet rust test, confirming superior corrosion protection during the months your Harley sits in the garage. Many motorcycle oils lack dedicated anti-rust additives entirely.
FOUR-BALL WEAR PROTECTION
In Four-Ball Wear testing (ASTM D4172) at 40 kgf load, 150°C, and 1800 rpm for one hour, AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Oil produced a wear scar of just 0.37 mm. That level of anti-wear performance protects critical engine components under the high loads and temperatures that V-twin engines generate.
SPECIFICATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil meets JASO MA/MA2, API SL, SH, SG, CG-4, CF, and ISO-L-EMA2 specifications. It is suitable for use in Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles requiring 20W-50 motorcycle oil, including engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases. It also works in applications requiring an API CH-4 oil. Do not use where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required. The oil is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils, though mixing will reduce service life and performance benefits. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended.
This kit (HDBK) fits most 1999-2016 Harley-Davidson models across the Touring, Softail, Dyna, Sportster, and Trike families, including the Road Glide, Street Glide, Road King, Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Fat Boy, Heritage Softail Classic, Street Bob, Fat Bob, Wide Glide, Sportster Iron 883, Forty-Eight, and Tri Glide Ultra.
SERVICE LIFE
Use for up to twice the Harley-Davidson manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines, transmissions, and primary chaincases. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. If not using an AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil Filter, change the filter at standard intervals. Racing or modified engines are excluded from extended-drain-interval recommendations.
